ABOUT
WHO IS BLACK SHEEP FABRICATION?
Hey there, I'm Kolton, the owner and fabricator behind Black Sheep Fabrication. I design, fabricate and install custom architectural metalwork from my shop in Qualicum Beach, for homes and businesses across Vancouver Island.
My focus is artistic, modern design: pieces built to fit your space, not pulled from a catalogue.
I don't have a public storefront, so every project starts with a conversation. Reach out and we'll set up a time to meet, look at your space and talk through ideas.

THE BLACK SHEEP STANDARD
No matter the tier, all projects are built with:
-
High-quality materials and coatings.
-
Stainless steel fasteners, powder coating, and finishes made to last.
-
-
Over-engineered strength.
-
Thicker materials and structural fasteners throughout.
-
-
Ease of service.
-
Every piece can be removed and repaired if it's ever damaged.
-
-
Smooth transitions.
-
Top-rail joints use internal sleeves or hidden connections.
-
-
A custom fit.
-
Every part is sized to fit your space. No off-the-shelf kits. Panels are divided evenly along each run: no stock sizes or filler pieces.
-
Not sure which tier fits, or have an idea that doesn't fit any of them? I'd love to discuss it. The tiers are here to keep things transparent, not to box you in.
MY STORY
Kolton Fuller - Owner
For as long as I can remember, I've loved building things. Growing up on a farm, I was always tinkering and I told everyone I'd be an "inventor" when I grew up. Lego was my absolute favourite toy, and I spent countless hours seeing just how far I could push those little plastic blocks.
At 10 years old, I got my hands on an old buzz-box stick welder and started welding rusty scraps of metal together. Just like that, a new door opened before me.
Throughout my teens, I learned everything I could about metalwork. I took every shop class available, restored vehicles in my spare time, and in my final year of high school, I took the Foundations Welding Course offered by Vancouver Island University. It was the first real step toward a career in fabrication.
In my early adult life, I was lucky to learn from some truly skilled people. What they taught me took my skills to a whole new level, and I'll always be grateful to them. That experience eventually led to roles as Lead Fabricator and Shop Foreman in multiple welding shops, where I designed and built one-of-a-kind pieces for multi-million-dollar homes. Every project brought its own challenges, and I loved every one of them.
Later, as a project manager, I ran up to 20 projects at a time, which taught me the other side of the job: drawings, schedules, and keeping every trade on the same page.
Through all of it, I never quite fit the mould. I'm a farm kid who builds trucks and works on heavy equipment, but I'm also a complete nerd who loves sci-fi, fantasy, hiking, and video games. For a long time, I felt like a walking contradiction.
As I got older, I stopped trying to fit in and started embracing who I was. I accepted that I was a black sheep.
Now, with more than a decade in the industry, I've opened my own shop and built it around that idea. Black Sheep Fabrication is for people who want something different: truly unique metalwork built with care, and a professional experience from the first sketch to the final install.
If that sounds like you, I'd love to hear about your project.
